Finally, after all this waiting, I have been offered a job. It is with the Johnson County Attorney's Office here in Iowa City. At the County Attorney's Office I will essentially be trying my own cases in front of juries, and will also have the opportunity to select my own juries and make pleas with defendants. Still waiting on one place and will likely decide by this Friday.

Last Saturday Rob and I were fortunate to go to the Iowa vs. Michigan football game. At that time Iowa was 5-0, it was Homecoming, and the game was at 7pm (most games here are at 11am). So it was a big deal to get tickets (thanks mom & dad!). Here we are pregaming in the afternoon...
I know my dad will get a kick out of this next picture. Don't worry, I was just playing...
Can you feel the energy?
Hawkeyes win! Can you tell how cold it was by our red noses? I think the temperature was about 30*, burrrrrrrrr. I felt pretty warm due to the 3 pairs of socks, boots, 2 pairs of pants, 2 shirts, sweatshirt, fleece, 2 pairs of gloves, scarf, and hat that I wore. Hahaha I'm suprised I could even move with all the layers!
Sorry about that score Mom, Dad and Blair :)
As of today, Iowa is 7-0 and they play Michigan State next weekend. Here's hoping for 8-0! GO HAWKS!
BIG STEAKS
Friday night we went to
Rube's Steakhouse. Nothing too new about going to a restaurant that serves steaks, but at Rube's you not only eat steak, but you choose which cut of beef you want, then you cook it yourself! Rube's is located 1.5 hours away from Iowa City...seems kinda crazy to drive that far for just some food, but it was definitely an experience. Rob and I went with 13 other law schoolers & spouses and had a really fun time. Here are some pictures:
(waiting in line for the salad bar)
(hmm which one to pick? please note- these cuts of beef were WALKED over from the farm across the street. talk about fresh!)
(at the grill. you also cook your own garlic bread and veggies)
(this is rob's classmate, thomas. he ate 54 oz. of steak, seriously. rube's challenges people to eat a 54 oz. steak and then you get this t-shirt and your picture on the wall. poor guy was miserable, but he did it.)
(rube's steakhouse. montour, iowa.)

BIG TEN
Saturday I got to experience Big Ten football for the first time! I had always enjoyed going to UMD Terps games with my Dad growing up and it was something I missed when in college at JMU. The Dukes have gotten better over the years and I have to mention that JMU *almost* beat UMD a few weeks ago. Anyways, on Saturday, Iowa (The Hawkeyes) played Arizona. Since Iowa doesn't have a NFL football team, the state goes CRAZY for Hawkeye football. The morning of the game Rob and I walked to the law school to enjoy some free BBQ. Every game day a different law firm provides catered BBQ to the law students and spouses, yum. Then we walked to a friend's house for some tailgating. We didn't go to the actual game but hope to make it to the Iowa vs. Michigan game on October 10th!
(go hawks!)
I'm really enjoying my new life in the Midwest! Thanks for checking in with us.
xoxo
Allison & Rob
Wow, we can't believe it's been over one month since we've moved. What have we been up to?!
- Drove over 900 miles from Washington, D.C. to Iowa City.

- Allison started a new job.

- Rob traveled back to D.C. for interviews for summer associate positions (for summer of 2010).

- Rob started his 2nd year of law school.

- Allison traveled to Florida for Betsy's bachelorette party!

Whew, what a month! What have you been up to? We'd love to know what everyone has been doing!
Just a quick post to say that today was my first day of work at the Department of Veterans Affairs. Just did lots of HR type of stuff and have more of the same tomorrow. There were 8 other new hires along with me but they were all Social Workers or Pharmacists. I got to finally meet 2 of the HR ladies who helped me get hired while we were still in DC. One of the girls is my age, moved to Iowa City a year ago, and used to live in DC in one of the new condo buildings near the Nationals Stadium (small world)! Here are some pictures of the outside of the VA hospital where I'll be working.

Oh! And another story of what a small world it is-- yesterday when Rob and I were walking into our apartment building a girl held the door for us and noticed that we had MD plates. Turns out she just moved here from DC, lived in Dupont Circle, lives in the unit right below us, and is going to be a 1L at the law school. Nice to have some Washingtonians all the way out here!
Love,
Allison
Hello Friends & Family,
We never thought we were the blogging type of people. What did we have going on in our lives that was really of interest to other people? Well, now that we're embarking on this new chapter in our lives, we figured this would be a good way to keep everyone in the loop. We most likely won't be updating every day, but maybe once a week with pictures of our apartment, the law school, Iowa City, any trips we go on, etc.
We're giving this a whirl to see if this works best for everyone so let us know what you think!
Also, this will be a "private" blog so if you think you'd be interested in following us, leave us a comment with your preferred email address so we can add you to the access list. The blog will stay open for a week or so and then we'll make it private
Thanks for stopping by!
Love,
Allison & Rob
